Not every roof claim is what it appears to be. We recently got called out to look at a roof that had a claim filed on it for wind damage. When we got up there and did a proper inspection, it was clear the damage wasn't from wind at all. That's a big deal - because filing a claim under the wrong cause can create serious problems for a homeowner down the road.
This is exactly why getting an independent roof inspection from an actual roofing company matters. Insurance adjusters are not roofers. They work fast, they see a lot of roofs, and sometimes the cause of damage gets misidentified. That's not always intentional - it's just what happens when someone without deep roofing knowledge is making the call.
We know what wind damage actually looks like on a shingle roof. We know how it lifts tabs, where it typically starts, and how the pattern spreads across a slope. We also know what normal wear, installation issues, and other causes look like. Those things are not the same, and they don't present the same way on an inspection.
If you've had a claim filed - or if someone is pushing you to file one - and something feels off, get a second opinion first. A thorough roof inspection by someone who works on roofs every day will give you a straight answer. No pressure, no agenda. Just an honest look at what's actually going on up there.
